Hello. I'm writing the second volume of an encyclopaedia of 'sixties UK recording groups and while doing research on Kate I came across this site. I have been very fortunate in making contact with the members of so many groups who have been very kind in helping me with the details about their groups and I would like to find out some details about Kate. If you could contact me at my e mail, I have a few questions about the group and hope you can help.

Kindest Regards

Hi Chris,
We play your songs on our 24/7 psyche head radio station. You have a page, but if there is more info and pictures that you would like to contribute, I'll get it added?
http://psychedelicized.com/playlist/k/kate

Two things, first off, would you consider doing a promo for the station? Peter Daltrey of Kaleidoscope and James Lowe of the Electric Prunes have already graced us with their own contributions. Just something like "Hi, this is Chris Gilby of Kate and you are listening to the home of mind music Psychedelicized". Recorded anyhow, even on a smart phone and emailed over is fine, as I can add in the music afterward, but if you have access to a good mic etc... It'd mean regular plugs for Kate on the station and as you are very popular with our listeners - Strange Girl is considered a classic - it'd mean real kudos to us. What do you think? Well, you can email me directly to chat more privately.

Also, I have a small indie label, if you'd like to put out the collected tracks and make them available...

Best

I agree a lack of experience in actually running a company is a major deficit with many professionals that advise growing companies. We set up a website at www.Private2IPO.com which is a directory of private investors and venture capitalists who have helped build private companies and transition them through a major exit strategy. If your entrepreneurs are looking to connect with experienced leaders, who also have made a ton of money, they should check out this site.

Thanks for the article. I agree with your final paragraph conclusion.

To extend that conclusion, consider north California universities such as Stanford which for many continue to provide the exemplar. They benefit from:

• enormous, unprecedented government demand, eg U.S. defence industry R&D from 1950s onwards in California;

• enormous endowments and people networks in one of the biggest economies in the world;

• engagement by local industry in participating in university spin-outs and start-ups; and

• local venture capital firms which have evolved to service those businesses.

These bullet points seem to sometimes mean universities such as Stanford stick to the classic university role rather than trying to operate as an entrepreneurial business.

From a lot I've read universities like Stanford and MIT have operated and grown the following virtuous circles:

• provide A-grade educators & education >
• establish spin-outs and start-ups >
• allow management buyouts or takeover >
• receive kudos and endowments from grateful alumni >
• attract enthusiastic students.

There's a lot more helping those "model" IP generation and commercialisation universities. Cultural factors seem central, and they are perhaps the hardest to read, understand or measure. I need to finish my reading on this subject of cultural factors.
