Following on from an article written by Chris Gilbey last week, Record Companies - The True Criminals wherein he pointed out that that the music industry was possibly one of the main causes of the lowering of community morals when the lyrics of some songs played over the radio were questionable when played in the proximity of very young listeners.

We have an update to that item that will shock and amaze, well at least it shocked and amazed us. If, as the record companies claim, very young kids are downloading their music and it is the parents responsibility to stop them, then the following facts will make our readers sit-up and possibly reassess the morality of the persons who run the various content companies.

Regular readers are aware that we collect P2P stats from various networks and are actively monitoring the progress of P2P IFS* as measured against the performance of the Australian top 50 Hits charts as published by ARIA.

In other words, if P2P’ers download the files first and the result is that the downloaded songs then move up the charts, then obviously P2P is a promotional tool for the content industry. However if P2P’ers download a file AFTER it has become popular (i.e.: top of the charts) then obviously P2P IFS is damaging the content industry.

I’ve just received an update from one of my valued “sources” from amongst the many around the country that assist us in ensuring our statistics have triangulation confirmation of our 4 hop count rule.

It would appear that the official interdiction policy now includes seeding the hottest moving files with fake porn content.

Forensic accountants will explain that to find a white collar criminal, one merely needs to follow the money and at the end of the trail is the criminal.

As the porn files have no tags or URL’s to push users towards paying X-rated content sites, I have to conclude that the only beneficiaries are the persons carrying out the interdiction for the music industry.

We’ve seen the interdiction of fake files go from :

Blank mp3’s (White noise recording - hissing),

Blank files – A single frame saying Downloading is a crime repeated for the length of the film clip or movie

Fake movie content files (content taped off a free to air channel)

All of which can be considered fair and reasonable for persons protecting their content from the likes of illegal file sharing miscreants.

But to deliberately, mislabel X-Rated hard core pornography with the name of one of the worlds most popular singers just to prevent a few kids from getting the music for free is NOT ok in my book.

Shame on you music industry – and if you say ----- “But it’s not us”! What else could you say?  Then please give us at least one other suspect that might benefit from mislabeling a piece of non advertorial type XXX content.

Can’t think of any ? No neither can we.

For those of you who need the evidence….  Here’s some examples of the Music Industries latest assault on your kids.

These are all video clips purportedly of music artists that are expected to go up the charts.

How dare you music Industry?

This has to be classified as one of the all time worst commercial decisions you have ever made.

I wonder how Alesha Dixon, Kate Perry and Flo rida would feel if they knew that the industry was associating them with this kind of content.

More to the point, would this constitute a breach of the morals clause? And could recording artists that were so slandered break their contracts as a result?
