It is an unstated fact of life that women provide the nurturing for the men that bring home the bacon.

Therefore any potential male suitor needs to know exactly what the bacon is.

Guys, a hint, it’s not a 1979 Holden Monaro with mag wheels and a 400 decibel stereo anymore.

It’s “Hey, I have last nights version of the Vampire Diaries” (today’s fastest trending Twitter subject) “which won’t be on channel 9 until the week after next. Do you want me to come over tonight? And I could bring a six-pack of Cruisers.”

That should give a loud hint.

Who uses Twitter? The girls. Why? Because they have so much more to say. The average female emotes 7,000 words per day whilst the average male (if allowed ) speaks 2,000 words per day.

The girls want Vampire Diaries and what the girls want, the girls usually get.

Australian ED2K activity on the Vampire Diaries last week was 1298 users querying for the file per day.

But Koltai it was on Channel nine.

Well, yes, but lets have a look to see what the Media blogs say….

On Yahoo, they were lamenting what the media still likes to call “Internet Piracy” although the Yahoo article drew some interesting conclusions…...

"Arr! Internet pirates around the world are plundering Glee and The Vampire Diaries .

The Hollywood Reporter examined the top 100 TV shows on the Pirate Bay — the controversial website that allows internet users to download television, movies and music to their heart's content — and found that these two series are the most pirated new TV shows, along with FlashForward and The Cleveland Show .”

The Hollywood Reporter is a media insider magazine that regularly reports on P2P downloads as an indicator of a shows popularity, mainly so media insiders can use this data as an indicator of whether a show season should be extended or not.

The article then explained that persons in countries outside the USA quite often turned to file-sharing as the only available means of obtaining content that was FTA in the US but not available in their home country.

Then the article revealed that local Aussie TV station channel 9 (Go) had fast-tracked the Vampire Diaries for Australian audiences.

A quick check on TV Tonight and voila…

September 29, 2009

If you missed The Vampire Diaries yesterday on GO! (and with all the content on offer most people did) Nine has suddenly announced it will air tonight on Nine.

It’s slated for 10:30pm in place of Little Britain.

Just 147,000 saw the premiere on its two screenings on GO!

Nine has also added a repeat of The Apprentice Australia on Wednesday night at 10pm, on top of repeats already planned this coming weekend.

The Vampire Diaries will also have a replay on GO! Thursday night at 10:30pm in place of Side Order of Life.”

Of course they missed it Channel 9. There were already three episodes available by the time you aired the first one. HELLO ???

So yet again Television is no longer the fastest delivery of media.

It would seem that the girls (who haven’t bothered to join the Pirate party) still expect their suitors to provide the best entertainment.

Of course there are no legal options available.

It would seem though that even when there are legal options available, users still prefer to download their torrents as evidenced in an article by Eriq Gardner in April this year.

Taking the top spot was ABC's "Lost," a show that the network has tried to stream for free on its website. Almost 1.8 million downloads for the most recent episode testifies to the fact that many people want it their way.

Although the article was about another US show, “Chuck” it had some interesting statistics of the most popular downloaded shows on the Pirate Bay torrent tracker.

So it would appear that whatever the TV, Cable company’s do, Twitter and the file-sharing community are there ahead of them.

TV guys – if you want to reclaim relevancy in the Australian market – you need to renegotiate those deals to be day/date not deferred.

As we all know, the early bird gets the work, or in this case, the girl.

Channel nine, in case there’s any confusion, you are waaaaay down the list as regards any possible classification of the word early.

P.S.

The Yahoo article concluded by saying:

“Interestingly, the Reporter notes that TV shows that are the most downloaded are often the highest rated, suggesting that internet downloads aren't hurting viewing numbers.

Episodes of some shows, including The Mentalist and Dexter , have even been leaked to the internet ahead of their official TV premieres."

We repeated it here verbatim, because we couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

I wonder if that evidence will be presented in the AFACTS –v- iiNet case?
