At a conference last week You Tube CEO, Chad Hurley , talked about the
business model to get to revenue.
During the Digital Hollywood conference, Hurley avoided questions about
YouTube's moneymaking plans, but said that YouTube is exploring ways to offer
advertising on its site. It is looking toward promoting brands instead of
targeting advertisements to search results or running a commercial before a
clip.
YouTube also hopes to extend itself eventually to mobile technology
because consumers prefer "bite-sized" videos over full-length clips when played
on their cell phones and handhelds. The key is figuring out just how it'll look
and work, such as determining which clips will be made available for downloads
to portable devices. "We see it as big a opportunity," Hurley said.
Business models that rely on brand advertising are really hard to build.... But they do have the eyeballs, so good luck to him!
