Here is something recently posted to The Long Tail blog that is particularly interesting for me, since I am participating in some meetings that are referencing data about the DVD business.

It presents some data about trends in the movie industry with regard to both production costs, box office receipts, and dvd sales - how box office receipts would have declined faster if not for increased ticket prices and the linkage between box office and dvd sell through. But the key take away, paradoxically, which I have been going on about now for many months, is that this does not mean the end of the dvd.

Consumer created content is alive and well. As the music industry goes, so the movie biz will go too. More people with camcorders wanting to share their content with each other. How will they do it? Via the internet, via dvd.... and they are going to need both tools and services to do this. And they are going to need to search.....

A million opportunities await....
