Supply Chain - Music Business
One of the things that convergence seriously disrupts is Supply Chains.
I have been listening to the Keynote Address by Thomas Hesse (from BMG) recorded at the Digital Hollywood conference and he talked about the challenges associated with getting music videos digitized and ingested into the iTunes database ahead of taking the video to MTV and the logistical challenges associated with BMG having to reengineer its production supply chain. Thomas also talks about how now sales and marketing are one. It occurs to me that this is common to all businesses that are disrupted by convergence - and that means ALL business. Sales and marketing are one thing - and in the transition period of corporations learning about the metamophosis that they need to go through, it becomes even more imperative that corporate head offices listen to the market more. And in order to do that companies need to find better ways to have conversations with the market. That means providing more and more tools and information to the market.
