The Sony BMG Debacle
This article from Business Week is great - particularly for a couple of the quotes about the problems at Sony BMG from Counterpane CTO, Bruce Schneier:
"Making digital files not copyable is like making water not wet" "DRM is a desparate attempt to cling to...old business model(s). They have to figure out how to make money in the new world". There is a lesson to be learned here for all content publishers, regardless of what business sector they were in in the old world - they are now in the digital world, the barriers are down, and the only way to operate is within the community is as a member with equivalent voice to all their customers and consumers.

Interesting article!!
In Sydney recently, the Australian Record Industry Association won a court case against Sharman Networks (better known for Kazaa peer to peer software solution). Smiles everywhere from all associated with this win yet the market has moved beyond the old industrial world model of creating, promoting and distributing music content. As discussed with Chris over a quick coffee yesterday afternoon, the world is moving to a "less is more" model. Unfortunately for the existing industry incumbents like SonyBMG, keeping their large multinational juggernauts continuing to grow with their "one size fits all" business models will see them fail in the long term. The Perceptric Blog is where business partners in Perceptric Pty Limited, Chris Gilbey and Tom Koltai post thoughts, ideas, and links to stimulate thought and accelerate the transfer of ideas with a particular focus on P2P. P2P can be considered as (a) The best Decongestant for the Internet (b) The most efficient Digital Distribution Channel that exists. Perceptric Thinkers are available to consult on the impact of disruptive technology. If your business is not disrupting someone else, it is probably being disrupted by others. The Perceptric mission is to help companies and people exceed their expectations. We try to help people redefine the ecosystem that they operate in, and understand the impact that digital technology is having - that they have not yet considered. Login
