Katie's debut.

By Richard McKinnon

CBS debuted Katie Couric last night. She's been brought in to market the traditional newscast.  Viewership keeps going down for traditional timeslot network news. CBS want Katie to reverse that trend. So CBS have started to consider blogging, vlogs, streaming. Except dumbly they don't stream live to the West Coast. Nope. Gotta wait until the [...]

Amanda fired?!!!

By Richard McKinnon

Rocketboom has fired Amanda. That's silly. Egos must have got in the way. Amanda was Rocketboom. Rocketboom started and explored the possibilities of vlogs in a big way. Somebody has therefore made a mistake. Intriguingly, whatever the reason for the split, opinion is on her side. Farewell, Rocketboom.

By Chris Gilbey

In the ongoing battle between two formats, news comes to hand that the basic bill of materials to construct a player for either format is in the region of $400. I can not imagine how it will be possible to make this into anything other than a still borne technology with this basic price point [...]

Rocketboom comes to Tivo. The hilarious online vLog can now be programmed directly into my Tivo via the net and home wireless connection. That's signals the final end game for the networks. Amanda and the gang are only the first of many, many more independent operators to come who will program a whole new TV experience. Everyone's who's [...]

Paid Content sent their man to a Digital Magazine Conference. He gets there and finds no Wi Fi. He rips the organizers. Why not? He uses the WiFi link to communicate vertically to an outside world via email, instant message, skype, blogs and who knows, in the future, vlogs. Predictions are flowing about the wifi future. [...]

Thats the new model. Distribute widely. Field comment. Encorporate ideas. Keep the conversation moving forward.

Snapshot Tomorrow.

What is the future?

Long term it's amazing, perhaps even scary, if you believe Ray Kurzweil’s predictions from his new book, “The Singularity is …

Vlogs. Video starts to arrive on the web

By Richard McKinnon

Video blogging is taking off. Everyone is walking around with handheld video cameras or they have webcams; they have tons of bandwidth; they have cheap storage. They have personal websites. Why wouldn't video join audio join the written word on the web?. Check out Amanda Congdon at RocketBoom. Her file on 15 Sept is an interesting anti-Cheney/anti Bush slant. [...]
