Spurious Damages Claims about P2P.
The Content Industry has a Problem.
For years, record companies have been giving away music as
samples. As have the Movie industry. In fact the Movie Industry R5 “Screeners”
are sent all over the world to ensure the movie receives a warm reception from
the critics and theatre groups.
I saw a screener yesterday. It was for an, as yet,
unreleased movie. It was quite clear in it’s instruction. The movie (copy of)
was not for Rental or Sale.
If the movie is designed to be a promotional release item.
How can there be economic loss? Especially if the same people are leaking
the Screener as are hired to interdict the file sharing networks.
With the courts handing out ridiculous untenable and
obviously politically motivated fines of 1.9 million dollars for thirty music
tracks, what will the damages be for a movie ?
Worth contemplating.
