Blindfolded P2P User Nearly Causes Maintenance Accident
There was a popular word in the 70’s – antidisestablishmentarianism.
It was used for two things – spelling tests and Time
Magazine articles about spelling tests.
It’s also a most excellent word for explaining the current
occurrences worldwide.
Newspapers are Closing
due to lack of readership and advertising sales.
Free to Air Broadcasters (Appointment
TV) are panicing over reduced
Ratings.
The leaders of our nations have stopped thinking. Anyone that ever donated anything to any
Political Party is getting free bailouts. The Presses are printing 25 hours a
day. (The money presses, not the newspaper presses.)
History has shown that the finger in the Dyke technique
doesn’t work. Eventually the dyke will crumble.
What will work?
FUD. FUD has always worked in the past. It will work now.
Let’s generate some FUD about P2P
Unfortunately today’s milleniumite generation have done the
numbers and the results are not good for the big business end of town.
They would far prefer to generate their own content than
continue being brainwashed by the media moguls pushing either the party line,
or the anti party line, depending on the media mogules political preferences.
Trust is rapidly disappearing. And although while the
official word is that its P2P that is causing that distrust, through
inadvertent content leakage – the opposite is true.
Whilst its true that some P2P enabled programs can be set-up
to share the c:\ drive, only idiots, incompetents too lazy to RTFM would ignore
the warnings in these programs.
All software comes with a caveat. Like driving – if you
drive a car at high speed on the Freeway with your blindfold on – you WILL kill
someone – possibly yourself.
Therefore anyone that installs any software should firstly
read the warnings in the manual. Secondly, research the software via the
internet and their peer groups – Facebook, Myspace spring to mind as an
excellent and easy to use research resource.
Message on Wall : Hey dudes I’m thinking of installing
Limewire…. What do I need to do to make sure that I don’t let the Presidents
secret Helicopter plans leak
out onto the internet?
In the first place – what the F&$^ were the plans doing on
a laptop that someone was carrying to and from work?
Could it be that the first breach of security wasn’t the P2P
enabling software, but that the individual was apparently permitted to take the
“Top Secret” plans out of a secure environment?
And as an ex-part-time-contractor-spoo*, I gotta tell you there is security, (“D”
level)
1.
Files on Laptops roaming the world. (An easy
target for smash and grab thieves)
(“C” level”)
1.
Firewall and Nat Router
(“C1” level”)
2.
Encrypted content files – each having a separate
key
3.
Encrypted hard-disks – each folder having a
separate key
And then there is (“B2” level) security
1.
No Internet connection and electricity provided
by Generator with no Ethernet port, floppy disk or CD-Rom devices.
2.
The computer is in a locked room enclosed by a
Faraday Shield.
3.
The Room is physically secured.
And then there is “A” level security.
Nitrate encoded Microfilm in a deep vault 15 stories under Cheyenne
mountain. (Hey its an oldie – but a goodie – this film will self destruct in 20
years…….. – FOI is 25 years)
And which one of those should have had the presidents
helicopter plans entrusted to it? My guess would not be the unencrypted –
highly portable laptop of a contractor.
All of which tells us that P2P software had nothing to do
with leaking the Presidents most secret Helicopter plans.
Stupidity did.
But ya gotta admit, the administrations PR machine is
certainly not letting an opportunity go by.
“And as every young Newcastle
lad knows, when there’s a six foot tall hells angel leaning over you and
there’s a break in the traffic…. Don’t you let a chance go by oh lord, don’t
you let a chance go by.”
Spread the FUD. Fear Uncertainty and Doubt.
The problem is that the P2P users are actually now the older
guys. The same people that protested against Vietnam.
Yep, at Perceptric we are finding that P2P is not the exclusive Gothic,
Punk, anti-establishment 17 year olds
anymore.
It’s everyone.
Grandparents – a movie for little Johnny
Lawyers – Just research…..
Government Ministers – more research (but I didn’t inhale)
Film Producers – well they don’t get time to actually go to
the cinema
Musicians – I’m not going to pay my competitors to listen to
their shite…..
Policeman – Movies only. We only
rip movies – we don’t burn any Music CD’s, only Movie DVD’s.
So whatever “The Administrations” actual purpose is, the
flower power children know that P2P FUD is just an another acronym for people
too lazy to spell antidisestablishmentarianism.
*= any letter you would like it to equal
