James Hansen – The Fossil Fuel Debate
James Hansen is noted as being the leading climate change scientist at NASA.
He has spoken up about political interference in the ability for scientists like him to go public. He is very sane and he appears to be a real leader.
He has a draft letter in development to go to world leaders like Angela Merkel and Gordon Brown.
The key thing to keep in mind is this. Hansen says that the maximum number of particles of carbon dioxide that is survivable is 350ppm. Kyoto is looking for a target that is higher than this over many years. Reality is that we are already past this number right now.
This is really important stuff. It will require that we reduce our per capita consumption of fossil fuels – and in particular we need to address electricity consumption – that is what is driving the construction of coal fired generation plants…
