Tivo may soon show Amazon movie downloads. Apple will debut it's iTV box in three months. Rampant dislocation is about to break loose in the movie business. Once its easy to shift today's new movies around to the TV screen, then people will. Going out to the movies will become social. Dates. Something to do. Kids.

But for a lot of optioned up, big screen, comfortable couch, great refreshment homes, they're just going to download. Set Amazon/Tivo to pull down the blockbuster and no more parking fees, irritating cellphone conversations, awful popcorn, uncomfortable seats and high prices.

This could rescue the movies business. More people want to see movies than want to go out to the movies. But make it easy, and boom, they're in. Life could be hard for a while for the cinema owners. And maybe for mid range execs in traditional studios and distribution outfits. But isn't that progress anyway?
