It seems that philanthropy is the hot new thing in the US.

I was in a meeting with an acquaintance yesterday. He is a very successful lawyer in San Francisco, but his financial success came from being a very smart investor. During the course of the meeting he told me that he now only works on things he wants to work on with people he enjoys meeting regularly with. And since he has put in place a structure for his children to take care of them, he is working to give everything else away.

Interesting that the most successful business people in the most capitalist nation on earth now appear to be moving to be the most benevolent people on earth. And all this at a time when the politicians (of pretty much all persuasions) appear to be scrambling collectively to become more craven than ever before.

Strange times we live in. Hopefully the good will of the philanthropists will flow through to all levels of society everywhere….
