BluRay vs HD-DVD, and Apple….
In the ongoing battle between two formats, news comes to hand that the basic bill of materials to construct a player for either format is in the region of $400.
I can not imagine how it will be possible to make this into anything other than a still borne technology with this basic price point – at the same time that the PC business is striving to get prices down and functionality up, and where there is a plethora of content that is available in SD. There just isnt enough real demand from consumers for yet another disc based entertainment platform.
Where the demand is – is for more user friendly tools for distributing Consumer Created Content. The tools at the moment are just too geeky. So who is going to step up to the mark and provide a more user friendly version of Bit Torrent? An easier way to construct the tags for podcasts? An easier way to search and identify the vlogs that I want to consume? A less jargonistic description of RSS?
I would hazard a guess that somewhere in Cupertino in the heart of Apple, someone is working on all of the above right now, and very soon we will have a proposition so compelling with regard to at least some of these issues that we will are going to find it harder and harder to avoid becoming Apple users….
