A really interesting view on the driver behind the next big thing on Tom Evslin's blog – free wi-fi. He speculates about what it will mean, how it will be driven by Google (who have some patents in serving targeted ads over wi-fi) and of course with their push toward localization of ads and the improvements in their maps…..

And on the other hand Microsoft, Ebay, Yahoo are all going to want to rise to the occasion, and they all have mountains of cash…..

If he is right, watch for the VC scramble…
