A new Dell Computer
Our new Dell computer arrived at the weekend. We needed it. We have now bought a new system every two years since 1988. Driving force. The need to operate new features of life. Not computers. Life. Want to book travel? You need to run IE5 or 6, or a browser at a certain level. Basically, new machine needed.Want to run a game? (say Rome total war) New machine. Do certain business activities New machine. Skype and voip? New machine (And DSL).
Great thing. Prices are slumping, machines get better. We now have four boxes. 2 Laptops. 2 Desktops.Wireless network.
The teenager (just), integrated the new box into his room immediately. Played Runescape, (massive multiplayer online game) talked via loudspeaker wired line to pal elsewhere playing same game, IM'd, had the TV on. Took a cell call. For all I know, wrote homework essays as well. New world, eh?
And why people over 25 are not getting it about the rate of change today. Massive price drops, shattering amounts of computer power, easily available communication, a drive to speed, a desire to cram everything in. Hallmarks of today's kids.
