Google Event

I went to a Stanford Australia Association event this morning, featuring two Google execs.

Lars Rasmussen is the Lead Engineer on Google Maps and is based in Australia – he is building an engineering team here. Sukhinder Singh Cassidy is VP Asia-Pacific and Latin America.

They both had interesting things to say about Google, its culture, the sort of acquisitions that it may make, etc….

Their business philosophy:
1. Solve user need
2. Then maximise usage
3. Lastly develop the business model

And from a software point of view – “Launch early, launch often”

On Asia and Mobile
Most of the mobile companies are totally used to the walled garden approach and don't even consider internet in building out their mobile offerings. But this is where the real growth will be.

They have just launched a branded service with T Mobile that starts with Offnet Search

They see the future being focused on personalization and ubiquity of devices and platforms.
