Yahoo goes CCC

Today Yahoo announced that they are backing away from delivering studio based content and shifting to consumer created content. We have been talking about this here for some time…

What will be interesting is to see what happens to some of the big brands that provide tools for both professional and consumer use. As cell phones come on the market with substantially increased capabilities both with respect to memory, processor speed, increased quality of lenses – AND – with the built in cellular engine potential that they naturally will have, what will be the fate of the traditional camera brands? A lot of people won't remember that it was not that long ago that German companies absolutely dominated in this space. Then Japanese companies with equal or superior lens making technologies moved to dominate. In ten years will the only relevant cameras in the marketplace be phones?

The bottom line is that if we are going to see an explosion of consumer created content, then it stands to reason that the most logical device for people to capture that content on would seem to be the phone handset.
