New Tivo Service and Potential Implications

Interesting move by Tivo.
New software package that allows you to move TV programs – i.e.
copyrighted video material – from your Tivo to your PC. What is also
interesting in light of what we expect to hear from MacWorld later this
week, is that it doesn't work for the Mac.

And of course once you move all that material to your PC, it is only a
nanosecond away from being on your mp3 player of choice…. and it
didn't cost you anything.

Apparently they also announced at CES a deal with Yahoo! to enable you to move multimedia material from your phone to your TV.

The real implications of this are still not being considered by the
media industry. This is the true beginning of the rise of consumer
created content. All we need now is for google to be able to provide an
ad insertion program that puts a profiled ad based on your searches at
the beginning end and middle of the file transfers and you have a
serious tectonic shift in social media.
