Classified collapse changes media.

The LA Times cut 110 staff and a production facility yesterday on top of the 86 writers (8%of the newsroom) terminated a week ago. Classifieds have been smashed by the internet. A week ago the Pew report noted that Craigslist, the free classified site, has jumped 180% to 9 million users in a year. All online classified sites have leapt. That used to be the major media, the newspaper, lifeline. No more rivers of gold. So. Goodbye writers and staff. And where will it end? Not one executive in a major newspaper group can say.
