Media – The Changing Model

OhMyNews is the future of
news media. It is Korean. It has been going since 1999. It has turned
the traditional media model on its head…. using some unconventional
wisdom along the way.

Anyone pretty much can become a citizen journalist, and through a
system of micropayments, made by readers, the
contributors/bloggers/journalists get paid. One citizen reporter
apparently received more than $30,000 over the course of one week!

Now they have developed and English language version of the paper and anyone can contribute subject to the normal editorial caveats of course.

I understand that the New York Times has had a quite promising response
to making Tom Friedman's articles a subscription model. That model may
have some legs when you have journalists of the ilk of Fridman and
Krugman etc. But the real future is in citizen journalism, where the
end user makes the determination as to whether the article is what she
wants or not.
