Tagging is a growing problem for bloggers
As an alphabetical tag list grows in length, it becomes more difficult both to use and to manage. Folksonomies where people assign their own tags or key words is leading the world of blogs and pods into unnecessary confusion.
The future of wikis, blogs and rss will be determined by ways and means of tagging. The opportunities are enormous for independent-minded people who know a thing or two about tagging information in effective and usable ways. Established corporate, academic librarians, info scientists etc. will not have an advantage in a market where big means bad and authority files are seen as fascism.
Nevertheless, people with expertise in taxonomy design and implementation have a lot to contribute to Web 2.0. It is a big subject. I know, since I wrote the best-selling business guide Taxonomies: Frameworks for Corporate Knowledge So why not start with what people are already doing which is tagging?
The new blog, Supertaggers, gives initial pointers and an early useful example of supertagging the most used Technorati tags.
