Skype. The best and worst of times.
Skype has just improved impressively whilst also machine gunning its foot off. A new Skype version, 2.0, has been release in beta. It includes built-in videoconferencing . Some, like Skype Journal think it only so so. They consider 2.0 a problem for software developers who want to work with Skype on new ideas, then monetize them. Perhaps.
But the new Skype version means a one stop shop for Skype users. It'll save a lot of fooling around with plug ins. It guarantees that all computer illiterates have to do, is plug in the camera and microphone. Suddenly, there's a video conference. Couldn't be better. That's a big step up. They've made it easy. Now. Just add built in Skype recording and its perfect.
Meanwhile, a couple of days ago a scam email arrived from share.skype.net telling me to change passwords at an obviously scam site. I deleted it. Turns out, it was the real thing! It broke every known rule on internet security, password, trustability. The bottom line?
I'm locked out of the system. The password retrieval system hasn't thrown out a new password yet. (hours have passed) Hours of meeting and work derailed. We now rely on Skype totally. This is major screw-up.
