Blogs shape up to make money.
Blogs keep aggregating. Links are the new currency of the web. Networks keep growing. Pajamas media gets 3.5 million in Venture funding to support a network of newish blogs, including Australian Tim Blair. Some of Pajamas sites are highly politicized and controversial, some as boring as dishwater. The way of blogs. Meanwhile, Gawker material is now available, syndicated, as part of Yahoo.
Yet, old style media is reluctant to link heavily because they worry people leave their site. AVC points out links are the internet. The NY Times is even traveling the opposite way to every other internet based company.
What's happening? Astute observers see clusters of blogs with legitimate link swapping, control the user experience. On the one hand, web users click. either away entirely (because its easy and everything is quick and bite size). On the other, with a cluster of blogs, web users select a link you've provided in the post, or, on a sidebar, and you keep them on your network, where with luck a sponsor or advertiser might grab them. AOL's doing it. Versign's doing it. Yahoo's doing it. Now, watch for everyone to get into the act.
Its like a circle. Businesses or would be businesses on the web are responding to us, our habits (quick clicks) and then evolving the web, whihc will then shape outr future experince and choices.
