Eventually, Roger Federer beat Andre Agassi in the final of the US Open.comfortably. But only by lifting his game when under tremendous pressure. Federer thought clearly about his mounting problems mid match. Then he solved them. He tweaked his strategy. He demonstrated resolve. He was calm and measured. Agassi would have beaten anyone else last Sunday. But Federer is a great champion. Possibly he's tennis's,  greatest player ever. More than that, Federer is an elegant winner who knows his responsibilites in the wider scheme of his business; the sport of tennis. Finally a sport of emtional cripples and children has a mature grown up as its best player and leader.
