EBay buys Skype for maybe 4.1 billion US. This would have to be the fastest richification of two founders ever! 2 years after starting Skype, Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis are billionaires. Cool. More. It was the IPO of Netscape in the ninties, a company with no revenue, just converts to an idea, the browser, that ignited the first internet era. Was that just ten years ago? Is this that deal of the second internet era?

There's similiarites. Quickening deals. But this time between established companies and startups that have many users and are carving out new spaces. Hype off the scale leading to deals. (ie Skype.Although Skype has revnue and growth prospects) And sceptism. Except EBay, AOL, Amazon, Yahoo Expedia and a host of others then proved that the right idea, at the right time, can transform the normal way of looking at business models. Skype is this era's transforming deal

So think about it. 2 years from nothing, to billions. Breathtaking.

The pace of business today has changed forever.
