Blogs away, Yahoo!
Yahoo has hired Kevin Sites to blog/report from war zones. Sites is an experienced journalist. He will present video, audio and text, chats and video conferences on a daily basis. Yahoo has hired an NBC news producer to produce the Santa Monica part of the blog. Sites has had his own blog for some time.
This means Yahoo has moved into a more traditional media role. It's now reporting and making news, rather than simply presenting others (like Reuters) versions of events. This can allow interactive journalism. He's there, say Iraq, we're here and we can ask questions about what he sees. And feels. This further threatens old line media's current way of operating.
So, Yahoo has immediate war footage. Sport is now every couple of hours. Hip internet users have RSS feeds pushing info to their constantly updated desktop, including video. So why buy a paper? Or watch News at Ten?
And if that's the case and you're an advertiser how do you reach people now? See why net ads are booming?
